Napoleon and Betsy

"Harry Potter" heroine Emma Watson is attached to star in the period romance "Napoleon and Betsy," replacing Scarlett Johansson who was deemed too old for the role.

Watson, 18, will play Betsy Balcombe, a young, impetuous noblewoman trapped on the isolated British island of St. Helena who falls in love with Napoleon, who has been exiled there.

I haven't heard of this Betsy before.

Who are you?

Are you a Betsy or an Elizabeth? I am an Elizabeth and have been a Liz, but am happiest as Betsy.

Who has heard that?

"Bring it on," said Jill Lawrence, a Colonial re-enactor who supports the idea. She said many of her interactions with tourists include correcting misinformation they've heard elsewhere -- such as flagmaker Betsy Ross, a three-time widow, killed her husbands. Not true.

It was raining when we went to Philly for the first time so we got one of those trolley tours to get us around the city. what a disaster! Rain got in the trolley, it was crazy hot and humid and our tour guide was clearly making things up as she went along.

I love Alexander Hamilton as much as the next person (ok, maybe much much more) but I was a little disappointed in the American Experience documentary that was on last night. The acting was great (the guy who played Hamilton had great facial expressions) but I thought it presented Hamilton in an altogether too favorable light. They seemed to be trying to make the case that he should be more respected as one of the Founding Fathers and he should but the guy was no saint.

To my eternal joy I was reminded that Alex's wife was named BETSY (well, Eliza or Betsey). Of course, he cheated on her endlessly and I am absolutely sure that Alexander and I would not have gotten along but it was still fun to hear her name mentioned.

welcome betsys

betsy.blogspot.com and betsybetsy.blogspot.com were both taken (though rarely updated) so I was forced to resort to betsybetsybetsy.blogspot.com. that's fine. the more betsy's the better, I say!
